My Boy Bane.

We polled the One Love audience this week for dog nominations…and the winner is…..BANE!
Image result for and the winner is meme
This meme is basically irrelevant, but every time I think about announcing a winner I think of Steve Harvey and cringe!

Anyways, Bane is a spry young guy (only ONE year old). He is just a big fella who would absolutely thrive in a family where he gets to go out for walks, runs, and hikes.  Need some extra motivation to stick to your 2017 resolutions? If this is you:
Image result for trainer motivation meme
Bane could be the perfect addition to your exercise regimen! Plus, he’s is the eternal optimist and is super excited about life:

Image result for excited about life meme

The good news is, Bane is incredibly eager to learn and is very treat/food motivated…meaning #willworkforfood. He attend the One Love shelter dog training last weekend and was easily corrected using treats.

This guy will need lots of toys, because he loves tennis balls and if he could….I think he would do this:

Image result for dog with tennis balls gif
But also….is this even possible?

Anyways, when scanning through photos of him he literally had a ball/toy in his mouth in every single picture and looked so dang happy to have his choice of toys/balls in the play yard to pick up and run around with while being photographed. Maybe he’s a dog fitness model?

Bane has been around kiddos, but would probably be best-suited for a family with older kids just because he’s a big pup and when he plays he is kind of like a bulldozer. CONFESSION: One time, my dog Reggie was playing in the front yard with my stepdaughter and all the neighborhood kids and they all started running, so Reggie did too…and he totally plowed down a 3 year old in the grass. It’s fine, everyone came out unharmed, but TOTALLY understand the “big kids” recommendation first hand haha!

Also, Bane has had kennel mates, so he has shown to be OK with other dogs, but as always we definitely highly recommend a dog intro to ensure a perfect fit for the family :).

Interested in Bane? Don’t be shy…let us know! He is at MCACC WEST and his ID is A3724042.

Darling Darla

If you can bear to take your eyes away from Darla’s ADORABLE face to read this post, you will not be disappointed. This sweet face has a sweet personality to match and we just can’t get enough of her <3.

darla3

Darla came to the shelter on 12/7 as a stray with another dog. From our good friend Emily, we hear that Darla is quiet and quite shy. She’s a little unsure of herself, but if she feels comfortable around you, you will feel her love which Emily witnessed during their cuddle sesh (#JEALOUS).

Darla is a volunteer fave, of course, and everyone who has spent time with her can tell that she wants to be more social… she just needs a little confidence boost. Darla would be THE MOST loyal companion and is just looking for a safe and happy place to call home. And Darla does not come without skills… She already walks perfectly on a leash (Swoon), knows “Sit” (Amazing), AND doesn’t mind wearing cute, snuggly sweaters (MELT!!!). I don’t know about you guys, but dogs in dog sweaters are the absolute cutest things on the planet and I wish more dogs liked to wear them.  Darla just gets it.

Oh, also… she likes hot dogs, which I know all dogs like but it’s just cuter that Darla does.

darla2

Darla is estimated to be about 4-6 years old and is very mild mannered. She is good with kids and would be the perfect pup for someone who is looking to have a loving canine companion. We hear that Darla has a way of drawing you to her, and we are praying that this week, we find someone who is drawn to Darla. She deserves a loving forever home, and we know we can find it for her! Darla is at MCACC East in Mesa and her ID is A3859381. She is part of the Shelter Dog Program with One Love Pit Bull Foundation, which means she will receive free post-adoption training and a free microchip.

Yoo Hoo…Cindy Lou Hoo!

Sometimes we feature dogs that have horrible names (cough Moose cough cough). And, sometimes we feature one who has a name we find ourselves singing every time we read it! (YOO HOO, CINDY LOU HOO!) Also, every time I say “Yoo Hoo” I think of:

Image result for yoo who big summer blowout

…which my family and I say around our house on a regular basis. If you haven’t seen Frozen, you need to do so even just for this one part! I have a feeling most of you thought I was going to take the Cindy Lou the Who route with this blog, surrrpprriseee….went for it with the jolly, hairy character instead!

Now that we are all in a good mood, let’s talk about Cindy Lou. This two year old has the most soulful face I have ever seen. Personally, I feel that she would make the perfect dog-actress for future ASPCA commercials, is there somewhere we can submit her for a role? She’ll require a home first, and also, we’ve drafted a list of items she’ll need in her trailer if she is to take the commercial gig. BTW, we know ONE thing that is definitely NOT on her rider (rider = list of items she requires)….CATS.  Cindy Lou is not a fan. And, that’s ok…because she’s born to be a star and stars get what they want.

Cindy Lou is humble. She is a little shy at first, but warms RIGHT up to you. This lady is gentle and sweet. Also noteworthy….Cindy Lou ROCKS on a leash. Walks/Hikes etc with this gal are a dream come true. Cindy Lou loves treats, but most of all….she just wants a spot on your lap.

Since Cindy Lou can be a little insecure around new pups, a dog intro is definitely a must! But, she’d also be stoked to have a home and family to herself…girl does not mind the attention. (Obviously. Because again, she is born to be a star).

This adorable angel is sponsored under the One Love Shelter Dog Program, this means her new family will receive post-adoption training AND a microchip!

Interested in Cindy Lou? She is being cared for by MCACC East on Rio Salado and the 101.  Her ID is A3845302.

Say Hi to Felicia!

This week’s featured pup is a long-time resident of MCACC East. Her name is Felicia…and you guessed it, we cannot wait to say “Bye” to her when she gets adopted by her future family. (Who will also hopefully agree to send us photo-updates on how great she is doing!)

Felicia is a young lady, listed at only three years old.  She has been at the shelter since August…
Image result for shocked gif

We think it is safe to say that it is 100% her turn to find a home, and wouldn’t it be amazing if that could happen BEFORE the holidays? Even though she looks just precious in her reindeer antlers!
15442375_782537451885762_5433075361528411696_n

All it takes is for ONE person to see Felicia’s face and fall in love. She has a whole community of  volunteers rooting for her and, well it was about darn time that we jumped on the bandwagon and started promoting this gal. Felicia has so much to offer, and it is truly confusing to us all that no one has come to claim her as their own yet.

Felicia is sponsored under the One Love Shelter Dog Program, which means she comes with these two incredibly important things:
Image result for thumbs up emoji FREE post-adoption training to help her family with the transition.
Image result for thumbs up emoji A microchip, so she can never ever leave you ❤

Felicia is bursting with personality, so if you are looking for a pup that will have you laughing all the time, look no further! We do know that Felicia does not like kitty-cats.
Image result for i don't like cats meme

She also does not do well with leeettlee dogs…but has totally made friends with dogs her size with a proper, slow introduction.
Image result for slow down meme

Ok, after that meme I realize I have taken it too far and it’s a bit of a stretch.  BUT, what we are trying to say is that Felicia is great.  She is super attentive at training class, girl is a STAR student.  Felicia already knows sit, down, wait, and is ready to continue adding to her list of basic training with her new family.  She loves playing with tennis balls, and loves people big and small. Her tail never stops wagging. We have all decided that it’s time. It is time to say “Bye Felicia!” as she walks out the Shelter Doors with the best family of all time!

Go meet her. Again, she is at MCACC East.  Her ID is A3812001.

#CHANGEMOOSESNAMEFOREVER

First and foremost, let’s go ahead and address the elephant Moose in the room…Moose’s name…………
Image result for umm no meme
I’m really not sure what to say with regard to her name other than, I sincerely hope whoever adopts her changes it immediately. Ok, now that we all agree the name selection for this sweet pup wasn’t on par, we can move on to more important topics.

Topics such as…THIS:
15326151_10158193446690179_5573450151652541640_o

You guys, HELP. I love her so much. Her perma-sad face literally has me just swooning over here. I can’t take it. Speaking from experience….dog’s with faces as tender as Moose’s melt your heart every single day. Literally, my dog has the saddest eyes of all time and even though he is kind of an entitled prick, who walks away if I try to pet him, I STILL feel like he is the most innocent/precious creature on earth.  I am telling you, if you adopt Moose, you will come home from work and be SO dang happy to just sit down on the couch with this pup and pet her, and love her, and snuggle her.

Moose is TWO years old. She walks well on a leash (again, never undervalue this trait….also speaking from experience….(my other dog Hayley is legit a maniac as soon as we put her leash on.) Trust me when I tell you, having a dog that just leisurely walks on a leash is a gift from God.  So, by transitive property (transitive property definition is “if A=B and B=C then A=C”) Moose is a GIFT FROM GOD. Let me explain. If a gift from God (A) = walking on a leash well (B), and walking on a leash well (B) = MOOSE (C),  then GIFT FROM GOD (A) = MOOSE! (C). Should I have been a math teacher? Probably.  JK this is literally the only thing I retained from decades of math.

Anyways, Moose is also as soft as expensive velvet. So petting her will be addicting fo sho. This lush will curl right up in a tight little ball IN your lap if you sit down on the ground with her. And, one of the biggest selling points for me about Moose, she randomly snorts.  I NEED HER. Why am I already at capacity with dogs in my extremely small home?  You guysssss….a snorting dog is a dream come true.  I cannot tell you how much dog-snorts speak straight to my heart.  I am having a mild meltdown over here…I love that trait so much.

Moose already knows sit, she is eager to please (not entitled) so she will be super easy to train.  She has had multiple kennel mates and has done well with them…PROOF:

Sorry for the behind bars pic….cue the Sarah McLachlan music:
Image result for sarah mclachlan angel meme

Moose has also seen kiddos passing while out at the Shelter and she has just simply given a nice tail wag.  She takes treats gently (training my dog to do this now, so Moose is miles ahead of Hayley) and let me just bring it full circle by saying HER EYES PEER STRAIGHT INTO MY SOUL. This is Moose’s week. Who’s going to adopt her? Let’s do this. She is at MCACC West and her ID is A3850053. #CHANGEMOOSESNAMEFOREVER

Obsessed with Marvel and proud.

Image result for im marvel and im an

First and foremost, how fun is it that I just found this cool heading ^ with our dog of the week’s NAME? This week’s featured pup is the epitome of a people-pleaser, and he is ready and (more) than willing to be the dog of your dreams.  Say hello to Marvel:
15232096_10102106275758851_1446474684291003065_n

Marvel is two years old and has been at MCACC West for a few months now.  When our friends at One Love stumbled upon Marvel it was abundantly clear that he had LOTS of energy to burn and just really needed a chance to get out of his kennel and stretch his legs.

Now that he is sponsored under the Shelter Dog Program, Marvel is receiving shelter enrichment from dedicated volunteers.  In just the first two weeks of being sponsored, Marvel got to go on a hike, a training class, regular walks/runs, and has been consistently working on his basic commands.

In this short time, Marvel has made huge improvements and is already showing everyone following his journey how valuable shelter enrichment really is.  Marvel inherently has great qualities that would make him a nice fit for an active family. He is dog-friendly (a dog-intro prior to adoption is always recommended). Marvel gets along great with his current kennelmate. Also, this pup is TREAT-motivated so he…
Image result for will work for treats
The best news of all is that since Marvel is sponsored under the One Love Shelter Dog Program, his new family will be able to take advantage of FREE post-adoption training. This means, they will get to go with Marvel to training to help him continue on the journey to being the best dog he can be! And, we’ll let you in on a little secret, the trainer that One Love has on-board for these classes is A-mazing and having access to this tool FOR FREE is seriously incredible.

SO, if you are thinking about adopting a dog and you are a little hesitant, why not select a dog like Marvel who comes with the necessary post-adoption support to help you have a successful process?  He is at MCACC West, and his ID is A3822044. Go meet him today. You won’t regret it.  And also I found this so I am going to just leave it right here no I don’t care that this seems to be about a superhero and not Marvel the dog:

You better shape up, cause Sandy needs a man (or woman) and her heart is set on you!

As soon as Nikki selected Sandy as her pick for this week, I found myself googling Grease memes. I feel like if there was a dog version of Grease, Sandy (the dog) would 100% be cast as Sandy (the Olivia Newton John character).  Why? Because she is so dang sweet and innocent and I can just imagine her friends and past kennelmates preparing for each day at the Shelter like:
Image result for sandy character quotes grease

So why is it that a girl as sweet, cuddly, wiggly, happy and all-around wonderful as Sandy is still looking for her forever home? WELL, I think Frenchy says it best:
Image result for sandy character quotes grease

And, well since our Sandy has no idea who her biological dad is….she’s just waiting at the Shelter for a new family to adopt her so she can finally depend on someone!

Now that you know that Sandy is pretty much perfect…I know you are thinking:
Image result for sandy character quotes grease

Well, your wish is my command.  This gal is estimated to be about five years old.  She rides great in the car, enjoys the company of other dogs around her size (she has had multiple kennelmates), is happy-go-lucky, and will literally smoosh her face into your lap if you are offering rubs of any kind.  Sandy just eats up any attention you are willing to give her and wants to be as close as possible. This cute little lady has done really well out in public and is going to make some lucky family VERY happy.

So, in conclusion….Sandy is ready to go home you guys.  She is a longtimer at MCACC West and her adoption fee is $20. This pup truly does deserve a WONDERFUL home so…

Head over to MCACC West today and adopt Sandy. Her ID is A3824235.

The best Black Friday Deal…adopting Roscoe.

When we first started Project PAL our initial hope was that different rescues would reach out to us and propose dogs for us to feature to help them find homes. That is exactly what happened this week with AZ Small Dog Rescue and Roscoe, who (ironically) is not small!

Roscoe is SUPER friendly, active and a snuggler…if you are always on the go and looking for a friend who wants to do whatever it is you’re doing, and will do it without complaining look no further.  We have the guy for you!  Roscoe is a great hiking buddy, he also loves to run, go for long walks….ok so he basically enjoys any sort of outing with his people/person.  Roscoe does not necessarily need a backyard and would do great in a home where he is walked for bathroom breaks.  Why ?  Well, this agile pup can hop the fence (parkour for Roscoe?), so it’s just probably best if his future owners don’t give him that opportunity!

We are really excited about this handsome guy for so many reasons. But what we love most is that he comes set up for success thanks to the wonderful people who support AZSDR. Roscoe is fortunate to have the opportunity to be in the Lorenzo Boarding/Training behavior modification program. This program is teaching him everything from basic manners to learning to accept new people and other pups more openly! SO, to the lucky person that adopts Roscoe…you will get FIVE FREE handling sessions (which, is ummmmm, AMAZING…especially considering I am currently paying $125/session for my dog’s sessions).

Roscoe LOVES attention…and will definitely not turn down a belly rub also, why is it not acceptable for me to get belly rubs? I feel like I’d really enjoy them too. This pup rides well in the car, and enjoys going to the park to soak up the fresh air. Also on his list of favorite activities = mowing down vanilla ice cream cones….so if you enjoy a little sweet treat every once in a while but don’t want to eat alone, adopt Roscoe and the treat will be much sweeter!

Roscoe is super smart and is eager to learn from anyone willing to work with him.  He is already housebroken, leash trained, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, chipped, vet checked, licensed and comes with 30 days of free pet insurance, as well as a free vet visit all for the bargain donation to AZSDR of $80. WOAH…literally just felt like I was the guy on the info-mercial throwing everything in for the low, one-time payment of $80.  So, if you’re looking for the BEST Black Friday deal out there, I’d say you found it.

We’d love to find Roscoe a home this week so that AZSDR can keep helping more dogs in need. So, let’s all come together and do something good this week by sharing Roscoe’s face and finding him a home for the holidays!

If you’re interested in Roscoe you can contact Lisa at 602-918-9431.

The world should really revolve around Mierca.

Usually, when we ask our friends who volunteer daily in the Shelters what they know about a dog we have selected to feature they tell us the dog is great/friendly/happy/would make a wonderful family member etc.  BUT today, when we asked them to tell us about this week’s featured pup, MIERCA, the consensus was that she is essentially a dream come true. Actually, the exact quote from one of our favorite volunteers was, “She is effing hilarious.” Which means we’ve got a gem on our hands folks!

This five-year-old pittie mix has personality oozing out of her. *see photos below*. This girl literally draws a crowd when she is out and about…the true definition of a show-stopper.  Mierca is happy to be in the spotlight and has no problem with seven adults gathering around to chase her, play keep away, or get her going by giving her a tap on the bum to start her off spinning in circles!  She even happily jumped into a giant water trough and submerged her cute little face so that only her eyes were showing. Mierca is incredible. How this gal has not been scooped up is beyond us!

Mierca is listed at five-years-old, but she is SUPER playful.  Seems like this girl is planning on staying forever young. Even though she has a real zest for life and enjoys playing, she is not hyper, just active…which is ideal. And, to seal the deal….Mierca is even on the curvy side.  Girl is definitely NOT missing the feed sack!!!

I’m sorry but how can anyone resist a dog that cheeses SO hard for the camera that her eyes are closed?
15003188_10211329878465398_3342647695029877831_o

ALSO noteworthy, for all of you out there who currently have a dog at home and might be looking for a sibling for that dog, Mierca has had multiple kennelmates and has done well with them all.  Of course, a dog intro at the shelter is always recommended before adopting to ensure everyone gets along!

While Mierca is waiting for the perfect family, she is receiving shelter enrichment from our friends at One Love.  This means they are providing her with time out of her kennel to be socialized. She is learning basic commands from them, and receiving enrichment items in the kennel to keep her mind busy. Because Mierca is sponsored under the Shelter Dog Program she will come with a FREE microchip as well as FREE post-adoption training to aid in a smooth transition into the home as well as family bonding. Let’s be honest here, we all ❤ free stuff…

So visit Mierca at MCACC West and see if she is the girl for you. Her ID is A3093129.

Making a Case for Cassi

This week’s PAL is Cassi <3! Cassi is truly the best of both worlds and knows when it’s time to be goofy and silly and when it’s time to be calm and respectful. For example, when she’s home (sweatpants, hair tied, chillin’ with no make-up on), she is SUCH a goof… just see below. But when she’s hittin’ the town, she is calm and well-behaved. And, she walks great on a leash (definite heart eyes emoji)!!

cassi1 cassi11

Even though Cassi is about 5-7 years old, she still has such a youthful heart and a zest for life! Cassi knows that life is meant to be lived and she won’t let her rough beginning stop her from being happy. Cassi was part of One Love’s Shelter Dog Program, but is now lovingly fostered by a member of the One Love Family <3.

Her foster mom says, “She’s spunky as can be and you can’t help but have a huge smile burst across your face when she starts frolicking around the yard.” She has also become a world class snuggler on the couch….she loves her belly rubs!” Cassi really is the dream and we know this cutie will bring SO much joy and laughter into her family’s life. Did I mention that she likes to play hide and seek with her blankie?! SO CUTE!

cassi5

Cassi has been introduced to many dogs her size and has done well!! Unfortunately, she can’t go to a home with cats or small dogs, but she is great with children!! If you are wanting to adopt Cassi, you can apply through One Love’s adoption page here.
